Wanna dance? Gotta dance? You can boogie every night (and some days) away at spots throughout the Los Cabos area. Whether pure jazz is your thing or you just want a quiet evening while dining and listening to good music, the choices are unlimited.

Let’s start with Friday, the official start of the weekend. A fantastic place to unwind after a long day at the beach is Amarone, an upscale, two-level Italian restaurant on the marina in Puerto Paraiso Mall that features songstress Daline Jones, who previously headlined at the famous Starlight Room in San Francisco before relocating to Baja. Jones will mellow you out with her soulful jazz, beautiful standards, and original compositions.

She and acclaimed pianist and composer Diego Ramirez and Luciano Callado, a drummer from Brazil, recently released a new CD, Listening to the Light. Ramirez won the best jazz album at the 2008 Los Angeles Music Awards.

Call (624) 105-1034 for reservations. Jones also sings accompanied by Ramirez from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays at Cerritos Beach, about halfway to Todos Santos, at km 65. Grab the dog and the kids and drive on up. Find your spot under a comfy umbrella, enjoy a walk on the beach or a bite to eat, and listen to cool jazz. It’s safe and there’s plenty of parking. Now that’s relaxing.

OK, so you’re in the mood for a livelier evening. What could be more upbeat or entertaining than learning a new dance, such as the salsa, tango, or samba? Impress the folks back home when you take to the dance floor and break out your new moves. Lessons are held during the week on Arriba Tequila Bar’s rooftop, above Las Quesadillas in downtown Cabo San Lucas. Whatever you are game to learn, choose a night and get ready to exercise. Yes, it’s a workout, but what a way to burn those calories! Salsa lessons are Thursdays and Saturdays from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., with an exhibition at 10:30 p.m. on Saturdays. Just want to dance? Check out the Cuban music on Friday nights. Call (624) 143-6700 for specific times.

Another option for Cuban music is Hemingway’s Cigar & Tequila Lounge (624-143-9845) across the street from Cabo Wabo in Cabo San Lucas. Wednesday is Cuban Night with Los Trillizos (the triplets). Tropicana in San José del Cabo has Cuban music Wednesdays through Saturdays from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. and offers a Friday-night dinner show with Rosalia. Call (624) 142-4146 or (624) 142-2311 for more information.

You can enjoy live music every night from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the newly opened multilevel supper club Scoop, the brainchild of Gringo Gazette’s Carrie Duncan that is located on Leona Vicario in Cabo San Lucas. There’s Jonathan Orozco tickling the ivories; Santiago de Francisco on a jazzy sax; and Paul Clade on guitar; Latin jazz by the Sexto Sentido Trio; and the jazz and pop stylings of the Susie Q Trio. That’s plenty of options to get you out on the good-sized dance floor. And don’t forget to enjoy good food while there. For reservations, call (624) 143-0865.

Straight from Puerta Vallarta, Mandala, which is located near the stoplight in Cabo San Lucas, is an elegant new nightclub. Dine on sushi amid tall palms on the rooftop, then dance to cool music every night. Call (624) 132-9681 for more information.

Looking for a more laid-back activity? Maybe a quiet stroll along the Cabo San Lucas marina, perhaps stopping along the way for an after-dinner beverage? The  teeny-tiny hideaway called Two for the Road may be tough to find, but it’s worth the search, especially with Montana at the keyboard and vocalist Kathy Daniels located behind Hotel Tesoro Resort.

Another refuge from Cabo’s maddening crowd is Legends Live Music Piano Bar & Lounge on Lazaro Cardenas and Matamoros. Owner Wendy Tosoff entertains at the piano with her sultry singing, which is perfect for winding down the evening.

Casa Rafael’s is not only famous for its good food but is also known for its eclectic piano bar with Juan Carlos on the piano. He sings romantic ballads in Spanish and English Wednesday through Monday from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. It’s a great way to start or end an evening. Call (624) 143-0739 for reservations.

If you’ve decided to spend a night in Todos Santos, try to catch a performance by the versatile Daniel Siqueiros, who plays electric guitar, violin, keyboard, and drums on everything from jazz and pop to classical music, ballads, flamenco, Latin, blues, rock, and the Beatles. He performs Thursdays at Hotel California. Daniel also wows the crowd at Barometro on the Cabo San Lucas marina next to Puerto Paraiso on Wednesdays from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

This is just a smattering of locations with music being offered in and around Los Cabos. Depending on your mood and your preference, and with a little exploration, you will no doubt find just the right spot to trip the light fantastic or relax to the sweet melodies of Los Cabos’ assortment of musicians.
