Golden Gate Banks

This is quite a run in a small boat and puts you well out into the Pacific. Well known for its marlin and other surface game fish.

San Jamie Banks

As with the Golden Gate Bank you are well into the Pacific. This area is well known for marlin and dorado or wahoo. Sometimes bait can be made here.

San Cristobal Ranch

Just north of Cabo Falso you will notice a sandy beach that goes for quite a ways up to San Cristobal Point. This area is good trolling for wahoo and dorado. Trolling dark colored jigs in water 125 to 300 feet deep works well.

Solmar Beach

This area is for roosterfish. When fishing for roosterfish along this section of beach, be sure to keep an eye out for waves. No matter how calm it may look, there have been many boats caught by a rough wave here.

Harbor Entrance

Although most of the better fishing will be just offshore many large game fish lurk just outside the harbor entrance. Just outside the entrance of the harbor to the east, drifting boats can take small yellowfin tuna in the 30 pound class, generally with live bait.

Red Hill ( Cerro Colorado)

Just west of Punta Palmilla is an area that can be very productive for wahoo, usually trolling in water under 200 feet deep. This area is referred to as Red Hill, which you will no doubt notice is due to the coloration of the nearby mountains. Use dark colored trolling jigs for best results.

Shipwreck Beach (Playa Barco Varado)

Just northeast of the Cabo harbor you will notice a lighthouse atop the cliff. In the area in front of this lighthouse and as far east as Santa Maria Bay there is an excellent reef located approximately one mile offshore. This is a productive area for wahoo, dorado, and good bottom fishing. Water depths vary from 125-300 feet on the reef.

Gorda Banks

There is excellent bottom fishing here with large grouper and cabrilla available. It also has quite a reputation for producing wahoo along with many other species of game fish.
