Las Cascadas Beach Grill
On the quiet end of Médano beach, on a beautiful Cabo morning, Cascadas Beach Grill is a lovely place to be. Cascadas Beach Grill is located on the beach of Club Cascada de Baja, in Cabo San Lucas. The Sunday Brunch, served from 9:30 am to 2:00 pm, at Cascadas is a special meal to delight all. We felt relaxed and very pleased to be exactly where we were the moment we sat down. Our good strong coffee and fresh-squeezed juices were offered and brought immediately. I don’t believe I’ve ever had any better juice. The amazing brunch buffet includes everything you can imagine, and then some. Both Mexican and American choices are offered: mixed fresh tropical fruits; cold cereals, yogurt and granola; French toast, and fresh-baked pastries, chilaquiles, huevos rancheros, fajitas; guacamole, Mexican salsa, refried beans; custom made omelets, bacon, sausage, home fried potatoes, and much more. Do not miss the special dish called Eggs Baja, similar to eggs rancheros, but made with a creamy sauce. Out-of-this-world! There is a full menu from which to choose as well. Las Cascasdas serves throughout the day, lunch from 11:30 am through 5:00 pm, and dinner is served from 5:00 pm to 10:30 pm. Lenny’s Deli
For many Cabo locals and visitors, breakfast at Lenny’s Deli is a not-to-be-missed event. Some of their more notorious breakfast creations include the Seafood Special Omelet, stuffed with lobster, shrimp, and scallops, topped with a creamy cheddar wine sauce ($10 US.) Or for those craving something sweet, the Stuffed French Toast is filled with preserves and cream cheese ($7.50 US.), or try the Banana Pancakes ($7.50 US). The egg platters include fruit, toast or tortillas, potatoes or beans. Biscuits and gravy can be added for about two dollars. Lenny’s also has an extensive juice and smoothie menu. Breakfast is served from 7 am until 2:30 pm. And then there’s the lunch menu, offering 82 options, as well as several specials. For many locals the big draw is the classic Ruben ($8.75 US); others insist the half Cobb salad is their signature entree ($8.75 US). Other favorites include the super subs served on a French roll with tomato, lettuce, cheese and onion, in six or ten inch sizes, with creative names. For example, the Debbie’s Big Mouth Wide Open features corned beef, pastrami, turkey, roast beef, Swiss cheese and grilled onions, plus the usual toppings and sides. Other lunch favorites include a variety of burgers and cold sandwiches at prices from $7.25 to $10.00 US, salads, soups and hot lunches. The lunch menu is available from 7am until 4 pm. Lucky’s Cabo Grill
How about a relaxing breakfast on a quiet patio in the middle of town, watching folks passing back and forth along “restaurant row” in Cabo San Lucas? While Lucky‘s Cabo Grill sounds like it ought to be a place to go for lunch or dinner (and it is), breakfast is a treat, too. Lucky’s is named after a guest who stopped by, and didn’t leave. The restaurant’s mascot is a friendly dog that sits out front and is happy to greet you. One day, he just wandered in and settled at the foot of a table. Restaurant owners, Patty Congdon and John Higgins, tried to find his rightful master, but eventually, Lucky decided his home was with them. We had our breakfast in this cheery cantina with Mexican style wooden tables, covered with brightly colored tablecloths, with ample room between them. The breakfast menu is great for traditional American and Mexican dishes. Lucky’s (the restaurant, that is) has breakfast specialties with nine different preparations of Eggs Benedict. “Benny’” choices include steak or chili bennys, tuna bennys, tomato and artichoke bennys, and Paco bennys, made with machaco. Perhaps the most special special is the lobster benny. All nine are accompanied by potatoes and the freshest of fruits, and you have your choice of chipotle or traditional Hollandaise sauce. Any benny selection is available for just $6.95 US. Other complete breakfast menu items include more familiar fare, such as eggs prepared to your liking, pancakes, and French toast, ranging from $4.50 to $5.50 US. Lucky’s Cabo Grill is located on Miguel Hidalgo in the old La Parilla location. Family friendly and pet-friendly, too! Open Tuesday through Sunday for breakfast, daily for lunch and dinner, and has a Sunday brunch. (624) 1437424. P.M.K.
Marbella Suites en La Playa
This unpretentious Mexican-style boutique-y hotel is perched on the hillside overlooking the Sea of Cortez, and the restaurant and bar are located just above the sandy beach below actually, way below. Jose Luis Vazquez, the Food and Beverage Manager of Marbella Suites en La Playa, explained the philosophy of the restaurant was to make everything in-house and fresh every day, from breakfast through dinner. The tortilla, refried beans, guacamole, and salsas are fabulous. The house salad dressing changes with the seasons according to what are the best ingredients available at that time. A guest-favorite is the Tortilla Soup and I agree with the guests: It is the best I’ve ever tasted. Other lunch items include burritos de machaca, carne asada, and a just-right club sandwich. The chef’s special for dessert that day was Lime Foam, a refreshing and original creation that has the lovely flavor of cool lime and the consistency somewhere between a creamy flan and an icy sherbet. Marbella Suites en La Playa’s restaurant is open throughout the day, All meal prices are entirely reasonable: breakfasts range from $3.75 to $5.75 US; lunches from $4.75 for the mixed salad to $12.50 US for the mixed (chicken, beef, and shrimp) fajitas; dinners from $10.50 US for Fettucini Carbonara to $24.00 US for the filet mignon wrapped in bacon and served with two grilled shrimp. Open from 8:00 serving breakfast; lunch from 11:00 to 4:00; and dinner. No handicap facilities available, but in progress. (624) 1441060. P.M.K.
Pub de La Chapu
When you’re up to your sombreros in tacos, there’s a place in Cabo San Lucas where genuine “pub” food can be found. Pub de La Chapu may not sound Irish, but as soon as you enter the cozy, dimly lit restaurant and bar, you’ll feel like you’re on the other side of the pond. The walls and ceilings are draped with signs, banners, neon logos, posters, and photos of all things Irish. Even though it was a hot Cabo afternoon, sitting next to the brick wall and fireplace was somehow cooling. The menu is full of old-time favorites, like hamburgers, fries, sandwiches, and Buffalo chicken wings, but you will also find some Mexican dishes if you like. The Bagette Pub sandwich is created with Serrano ham, pastrami, roast beef cheese and tomato ($8.50 US.) The Hamburger de la Chapu comes with cheese, bacon, Portobello mushroom, jamón, lettuce and tomato, and topped with grilled onions for $9.50 US. Who could ask for anything more? There are seven different salads and soups, ranging from $5.75 to $9.50 US. I had a cheeseburger that was just great! All the fixings and pub fries just the way I asked for them a little crispier than everyone else seems to want them! It was a hot day so I ordered lemonade, and my waiter suggested a lemonade and club soda mix. I loved it! It was unfortunate that I had to drive, because the myriad beers available were very tempting. I would not be true to my Irish heritage if I did not mention that, while there are plenty of shamrocks inside, the Pub’s logo is a four-leaf clover instead of the three leaves of a true shamrock! Regardless, don’t let this upset you, because maybe the clover is purposely used there as just a good luck symbol - luck that you will have when you go there. Pub de La Chapu is located at the south end of the marina, near Cabo Dolphins. Open 9:00 am to 12:00 pm Sunday through Wednesday, and 9:00 am to 1:00 am Thursday through Saturday. Big screen rock concert music throughout the bar and restaurant. Same menu for both lunch and dinner. P.M.K.
