Café des Artistes
Chef Thierry Blouet’s restaurant inside the elegant JW Marriott in San José del Cabo features an elevated Mexican-style decor and a menu that takes diners on a culinary escapade. With more than a quarter century of experience with Café des Artistes in other cities across the world, Blouet here offers favorite dishes as well as Mexican flavors expertly prepared with centuries-old French cooking techniques. The prawn and pumpkin cream soup, for example, has been a favorite Café des Artistes dish for 25 years. The striking interior that is open to the outside terrace, the sophisticated ambience, the gorgeous view of the city lights in the distance, and live piano music are ideal for a romantic dinner. Explore Blouet’s creations from the tasting menu with or without wine pairing. Start with a fried softshell crab with watercress, orange, pecan, almond, and apple salad and served honey vinaigrette and balsamic vinegar. Another standout: seared foie gras with a light potato puree. Main course options include shrimp with plum and habanero mole as well as a pistachio-crusted rack of lamb. Vegetarians will enjoy a veggie symphony or risotto with huitlacoche, a corn mushroom delicacy. It will be difficult, but save room for dessert, which can be Valrhona chocolate brick, a very pure and intense cocoa with a red mahogany color, or a blue cheese soufflé. The restaurant hosts various special promotions throughout the year, such as oyster and an artisan cheese tasting.
