PARTY DRESSING CABO-STYLE

Starting the holiday season in Los Cabos is the Second Annual "Dress to the K-9's" event held in a private villa bene- fiting the Cabo San Lucas Humane Society. This does not mean dressing for the dogs! It means dressing in all the finery you can muster for a very elegant affair.

Women love to dress up, and they dress to be seen. What you wear says something about who you are. If it's an office party, this is the time to add a little pizzazz to daytime wear. Jazz up with accessories--a fringed shawl or velvet wrap. Add a beaded bag and strappy sandals. When invited to a private holiday function and in doubt about what to wear, call the hostess. Holiday party dressing allows you to be a little more over-the-top in your attire, but you want to fit in, look good, and feel confident.

As far as colors go, black is back and always chic. It's the staple, but other hot colors this season are purple, deep teal, plum, cranberry red, champagne and chocolate brown. Look stunning in one of Pepita's original, colorful, and one-of-a-kind creations, some with hand-applied crystal enhancement.

Coordinate your unique outfit with an elegant, yet whimsical Mary Frances handbag. These unmistakable designs are individually handcrafted with a sense of humor and immense style. Mary Frances handbags are being seen in all the fashion magazines, and can be found at Pepita. Casa Vieja has beautiful Mexican designer fashions, footwear, and accessories. Both boutiques are conveniently located at Las Tiendas de Palmilla.

For more options, check out the array of holiday wear in Plaza Puerto Paraíso. Zeferina, headquartered in La Paz, and now located on the Plaza's third level, knows what it takes to make a woman feel glamorous in lovely long gowns. Liz Minelli is another shop whose show windows beg the passerby to enter, try on, and waltz out the door with that special outfit.

To feel festive, upsweep the hair, accent with a fabulous piece of costume jewelry, a glittery belt or bag, conveniently found at the Something Special kiosk on the lower level. Consult your current wardrobe. Is something hiding? Can you add a beaded top to that long skirt? Even designer jeans can look stunning with a metallic top, or a red silk blouse, and sparkling earrings. It's fine to dazzle at this time of year. Add interesting textures like crochet, lace, shiny fabrics, beading and embellishments like silvery sequins, to complete an existing outfit.

Pearls are hot, too. UltraJewels on the Cabo San Lucas Marina or Diamonds International, with multiple locations in Los Cabos, are just the places for that fabulous piece of jewelry that can make all the difference in making a fashion statement.

For the informal Joe, you might need to beg, plead or bargain to get him out of his shorts. A silk shirt and linen slacks are very appropriate for our tropical evenings. For a fancy cocktail party, navy, grey or black slacks fit the bill, but black tie means black tie. If you tell him how handsome he looks in a tux, he'll go for it. He may complain, but once he looks in the mirror, he'll feel ready to escort Cinderella to the ball. On occasion, there is a "ball" to attend, such as the Red & White Ball sponsored by the Red Cross, and you can pull out the stops in a flowing gown. This is your excuse to be the belle of the ball with Prince Charming at your side. Seduce him into entering Hugo Boss, the fashion house based in Germany, with a store located on the lower level of Puerto Paraíso. Here he'll find casual to high-end sophistication, whatever the occasion calls for.

Whether it is formal, dressy casual or just holiday festive, Los Cabos has something for every occasion. Have fun shopping for that glam outfit!
