A message from the publisher
After receiving record numbers of visitors last year, Los Cabos continues to experience an unprecedented boom. In 2006, nearly two million people chose this desert-by-the-sea paradise for their vacation destination, with more than half a million of those visitors arriving on cruise ships.
It’s no wonder that the quality and variety of tourism services improve with every passing day. Currently, the offerings include nearly 11,000 hotel rooms, of which 82 percent are five-star category or higher. In an effort to provide more accommodation for the ever-growing number of tourists, plus those who fell in love with Los Cabos and are now calling it home, we continue to see new resorts, residential communities and condo developments springing up from Cabo San Lucas to San José del Cabo. In addition, two new projects, geared to add convenience to the everyday life in Cabo, Wal-Mart Supercenter Los Cabos and Liverpool department store, are scheduled to open this year.
Along with the infrastructure improvements, the array of activities is greater than ever. Our championship golf courses, water sports and pristine beaches attract many visitors, but it is sportfishing that has always been one of Los Cabos’ most significant draws. In this issue we strive to bring you a valuable insight into this industry’s nuts and bolts, as well as emphasize the important conservation efforts in place, which help to maintain Los Cabos’ unspoiled charm. We also take you on a thrilling off-road ride, invite you to the best seafood restaurants in town, and provide expert tips on how to own your home in Los Cabos without breaking the bank.
Welcome to the tip of the majestic Baja California Peninsula, and let us be your guide to the magnificence of the place where the desert meets the sea.
