Capo San Giovanni
Never been to Italy? Weep no more. Imagine yourself transported to southern Italy. Picture a quaint Italian restaurant where pungent aromas greet you as you enter a lovely private patio where you hear faint strains of “Al di La.” Los Cabos is fortunate to have this little spot that is so Italian, you’ll never have to leave Baja to experience a real Italian meal. Each dish is created from age-old family recipes, food that would send tourists into a paroxysm of glee if they came across it at a trattoria in Calabria, Chef Gianfranco’s homeland. Why not skip traditional and have him suggest a tasting of specialties, small servings, but big on taste and presentation? Start with golden fried calamari with puttanesca sauce, then an antipasto of Rototini di Prosciutto, rolled cured Italian ham stuffed with fresh mozzarella cheese. While enjoying the tasting, ask Gianfranco’s wife, Hilda, who is studying to become a sommelier, for her recommendation of wine for pairing. They carry 120 different wines from all over the world, primarily from Italy, and also have a full bar. Homemade pasta being their specialty, seafood lasagna with pasta layered with shrimp, blue crab meat, scallops and chunks of lobster served in a creamy whiskey sauce is a must. Talk about “melt-in-your-mouth,” this dish will make you weep for more. Cannelloni is a special crepe stuffed with either seasoned beef and spinach or red snapper. Don’t pass up prawns served in a wine lemon sauce or veal Marsala. When you cry, “no more, no more,” you must have the famous Italian dessert, cannoli, filled with ricotta cheese. Appetizers $6 to $12 U.S.; entrees $7 to $28 U.S. for gourmet pasta. Located on Vicente Guerrero. Open daily 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Live music nightly. Call (624)143-0593 for reservations. S.B.

Pub de La Chapu
Pub de la Chapu brings a new flare to Cabo San Lucas. Although the name may throw you off, this restaurant offers an authentic Irish Pub experience. Owner Pedro Valente came up with the idea of bringing the first authentic Irish drinking hole to Los Cabos while living abroad. Coming from an Irish ancestry myself, I could not help but smile when I saw the impressive collection of 130 beers (including Guinness) offered from more than 20 countries across the world. The very sight of the bartenders and staff sporting clovers and kilts made my smile brighten even more. The entire pub is adorned with memorabilia from Ireland. The pub also features a genuine pub fare menu and six flat-screen televisions to catch all the latest sporting action. Selections of mouthwatering appetizers range from $9 U.S. to $16 U.S. for larger platters, and salads are fairly priced from $6 U.S. to $10 U.S. The pub also offers a great selection of hamburgers, sandwiches, and quesadillas starting as low as $7 U.S. I would recommend ordering one of the chef’s specialties such as the Charolitas de Marlin, made with flour tortillas, onions, poblano chile. and sesame ($10 U.S.), or the Carpaccio de Salmon with olive oil, Philadelphia cheese, cebollin, and capers ($9 U.S.). Since its inception, this casual dining spot has been a staple along the Cabo San Lucas marina, where an international menu, with the best options in seafood, and a view of the waterfront action keeps business going strong. In addition to simple sandwiches and taco plates, fine cuts of steak, pasta dishes, and traditional Mexican combinations are all great. Solomon’s Landing boasts the sweetest lobster around, too. Something of a surprise is the sushi bar, serving the most amazing variety of fresh carpaccio, ranging from soy sauce and capers to a spicy, jalapeño-covered Mexican variety, and creative sushi rolls, all prepared by the sushi chef right before your eyes at the central bar. The Original Park Restaurant
When a festive ambience, an unbelievable variety, and good old American portions are what you seek among Los Cabos´ dining spots, look no further than The Original Park Restaurant and Bar. The family running this highly successful Cabo San Lucas establishment has given guests all this, and much more, for the last 30 years. Sitting just across the street from City Club, The Original Park´s interior is as vast as the menu of items it offers its hungry customers, and there’s nothing pretentious here, folks! Open and comfortable, much like an oversize country kitchen, this restaurant invites fun and energetic conversation. Included with each meal, and deemed a meal itself by many, are the complimentary tostadas, soup, mashed potatoes and gravy, plus homemade coleslaw, and garlic bread. Those with smaller appetites may opt for one of the lighter yet still incredibly substantial starters like tacos, baby back ribs, or any of the seafood cocktails: shrimp, scallop, oyster, or lobster. Now for the real meal! Proving that going big is what The Original Park Restaurant and Bar is all about, even the menu is outrageously large, covering an entire wall within the restaurant. Touting every cut of fine meat imaginable, plus chicken, scallops, shrimp, fish, lobster, and Mexican favorites (all ranging from $22 U.S. to $34 U.S.), selecting your meal is just the beginning of the options.
