The menu of treatments in many spas today is extensive and sometimes unfamiliar and confusing. But with the help of a well-trained spa staff, you can be guided to what may be best for your individual needs and desires. For example, the Desert Spa at Villa del Mar offers a variety of body wraps that use exotic native fruits and plant essentials to hydrate, detoxify and even soothe sunburned skin. Try the Mexican Tequila Body Wrap, an exquisite treat that leaves you invigorated and revitalized, or the Detoxifying Desert Fruit Body Wrap that helps the body pull fluids back from the tissues into the bloodstream, eliminating toxic retention. For a memorable facial, go for the Organic Succulent Cactus Facial or the Cucumber and Peppermint Oxygenating Facial.
Stones are another material utilized in many treatments and are applied to soothe and restore energy and vitality. Hot or cold lava stones, specifically placed on the body, relax muscles, ease tension, create a harmony within, and increase circulation. At Cabo Azul’s PAZ Body & Mind spa, stones such as opal, lapis, onyx, and the magical quartz are incorporated in several of the treatments, each with specific characteristics and results. Glowing facials at PAZ include the Timeless Jade, the stone that is said to bring on a long and fruitful life; the Radiance Saffire, a mask that stimulates the production of new cells; and for men, an Amber Vital facial that is geared toward the specific characteristics of a man’s skin.
And speaking of men, spas are offering more and more treatments that are appealing to and good for men. It’s no longer unusual or “taboo” for men to make some time for a spa treatment. Most every spa I visited has a corresponding and private area for men, too, as well as integrated areas where couples can participate and share treatment space and options. Remember, Los Cabos is a romantic getaway, wedding, and honeymoon destination, so spending a spa day together adds to that special intimacy in a very special atmosphere. Perhaps the energizing health benefits of spa treatments will become perfectly obvious.

Some spa treatments are designed specifically for women; others are suggested for men. However, there is one that is appropriate for both sexes, and that is reflexology. Defined as a form of natural, complimentary, non-invasive, holistic therapy, reflexology is a massage and healing process that can be done on your hands or, more commonly, your feet. The principle idea is that there are corresponding parts of your extremities to other parts of your body. PAZ Body & Mind at Cabo Azul, The Sea Spa at the Cabo Surf Hotel, and Senza Hair and Body all offer excellent sessions in reflexology. It is an amazing, yet somewhat underrated, treatment that a trained therapist can perform with some astounding results.
Longevity Massage Therapy is one of Los Cabos´ newest businesses offering a variety of services designed to treat acute and chronic soft tissue dysfunction. Owner Ricardo Cuevas is a Licensed Massage Therapist in New York and Hawaii, having owned his own private practice in Long Island for more than fourteen years. Here in Los Cabos, he offers sixty and ninety-minute therapy sessions, combining traditional Swedish and deep tissue massage with joint mobilization, and active and passive stretching techniques. All services include consultation, aromatherapy, and take place on a Body Support System, designed for maximum comfort and support. For an appointment, call (624) 183-8269.
It would be criminal to overlook a variety of very special offerings at YHI Spa at ME by Meliá Hotel. This spa has captured the essence of México and the healing properties of some native rituals thereof. The spa menu reads like a history of the Baja Peninsula as it describes the mythology and history on some of the treatments they offer, categorized into regional Indian tribe names: Exfoliations (Pericu), Renewal (Tamaral), Transformation (Altepetl), Restoration (Tlatonani), and Revitalization (Anuiti Rituals). YHI Spa may define an ultimate Mexican spa experience. One of thirty-three YHI Spas around the world, with only four in Mexico , the Cabo location is not a mega spa in terms of size; however, excellence in both quality and service keep it among the area’s best. The luxurious facilities include seven treatment rooms , including two designed for couples, plus two outdoor Jacuzzis, a cascade shower, sauna, steam room, Vichy shower, and Temazcal, an igloo-shaped sweat lodge, for those looking to spa the more traditional way. There is also a gym, with access to personal trainers for an additional fee, an on-site boutique, selling products by Natura Bisse and Crabtree & Evelyn, in addition to a small salon that provides manicures, pedicures, waxing, and hair styling. All of the products used and carried by YHI Spa are 100% natural. Before your selected treatment, unwind and prepare for total pampering in the outdoor relaxation area, complete with tranquil music and the natural sounds of water cascading into the fountain below. Whether by yourself or with a partner, there’s no better way to go than the decadent Roses and Champagne Massage. Fifty minutes of sheer bliss are yours as champagne, crushed rose petals, grape and marigold oil, sandalwood, and ylang-ylang are combined and massaged into your skin, providing a totally sensual and nourishing experience. Feeling completely invigorated is one thing, but smelling this sweet in addition makes this an all-around fantastic experience! YHI Spa is open daily from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm. (624) 145-7800. Accepting MasterCard and Visa.
In Los Cabos, skin protection is an obvious concern. It’s difficult to avoid some sun exposure while you are in Los Cabos, but after all, some folks come here especially to enjoy the sun. Too much exposure puts the skin at risk, causing immediate discomfort and possible long-term damage. Acknowledging this probability, spas offer specific wraps and massages to soothe burned and dried-out skin. The Desert Spa’s After-Sun Mint and Eucalipto treatment, the Sea Spa’s Rescue Me Wrap, and YHI’s Calming Wrap are all fabulously welcome relief from uncomfortable sunburn. Be good to yourself with one of these.
A new spa in town is truly a world-class facility. Located at Cabo Villas Beach Resort in Cabo San Lucas near Médano Beach, the 6,000 sq. ft. Sparitual facility offers a wide variety of body treatments, a full hair salon, plus manicure and pedicure areas. Highly trained therapists and estheticians are well versed with an ancient Hindu system of health care providing relaxation, circulation and elimination of toxins. The technique is called “Ayurveda” meaning “knowledge of a long life.” The techniques are designed for men and women of all ages, and children are more than welcome. Amenities include, but are not limited to, Jacuzzi, steam room, sauna, lounge, and boutique. The boutique carries its own product line along with Kerastase, Redken, and Dibi. An extensive menu has a variety of services to please everyone: facials, Vichy shower, hand and foot treatments and over 15 massage rituals, the ultimate being the Balinese. Formerly reserved solely for Balinese royalty, this signature ritual starts with a soothing foot bath with mineral salts, oils and flower petals. With eyes wrapped gently while stretched back against huge pillows, you can’t help but shut out the outside world and think lovely thoughts. Bali’s legendary tropical spa brings together exotic ambience, nurturing of mind and body, and an entirely holistic healthful and relaxing experience. A body cleansing and massage follows, finishing with a Jacuzzi bath and a choice of Chai Tea or wine. Picture candles flickering, a silver bucket with a red rose and a bottle of red wine while the body is being gentled pummeled by Jacuzzi jets. This exquisite ritual is the only one of its kind offered in Los Cabos. It is pure relaxation and indulgence, perfect for newlyweds or simply romantic-minded couples who wish to embark on a relaxing journey that arouses the senses with aromatic oils and exotic ingredients. For an appointment, call 143-0264 or 143-9166, Ext. 2019. Open at 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., Monday-Friday and until 5:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Sparitual is dedicated to empowering their clients to love their bodies, and learn to listen to their bodies to create their own beauty and well being, inside and out.
