The Southern Baja climate and landscape have proved the perfect platform for many successful Italian eateries over the years. To enter into this arena and succeed, it takes more than great food. It takes execution, attention to detail, customer service, innovation, well-sourced ingredients, and authenticity. I’m happy to report that Raffaele Pasta Pizza e Vino has arrived in Cabo San Lucas with all that–and more. Here, you'll find incredible Italian bites and delightfully accessible price points. Begin your evening here with an order of carpaccio di pesce (fish carpaccio), which is prepared with just the right amount of tartness. Entrée highlights include the limon piccata scalopini, fettucini amatriciana (ask for a little extra heat), and the decadent rigatoni carbonara. You can’t go wrong with any of the pizzas made in Raffaele’s mesquite oven: The adventurous can request the eponymous pie, made with potato and Italian sausage. Top your meal off with a cappuccino or selection from the extensive wine list and a slice of tiramisu. But the team behind Romeo & Julieta, an excellent Italian eatery in the heart of Cabo San Lucas, has more than followed through. Chef Matias Forte and his authentic, ingredient-driven menu transport patrons to the streets of moonlit Italy with every bite and every sip of vino. There are several seating options, but request a seat in the central courtyard in order to relish the romantic vibe. Ask your server for a malbec recommendation; a nice bottle from Mendoza can see you through most of the meal, beginning with the heavenly mussels in a garlicky white wine sauce. and yellow cherry tomatoes. There are also several pasta dishes, including fruti di mare, a delectable serving of linguini covered with a creamy Alfredo sauce, lobster, shrimp, octopus, and sea scallops, then topped with Parmesan. Chef Roberto Rendon’s preparation of the seafood was perfect.
