From tennis tournaments to tourism, here are the events that shaped Los Cabos’ summer

The Los Cabos social scene traditionally peaks in fall and winter, but this summer we stayed busy with fun celebrations that brought out dignitaries, business leaders, world-class athletes, and more. Check out the highlights.

FITURCA Turns 20 

The Los Cabos tourism board Fideicomiso de Turismo de Los Cabos (FITURCA) celebrated its 20th anniversary in July.

The Los Cabos tourism board Fideicomiso de Turismo de Los Cabos (FITURCA) celebrated its 20th anniversary in July. Director Rodrigo Esponda Cascajares told Diario El Independiente (www.diarioelindepe ndiente.mx) that the accomplishment was a point of pride “because it was the product of work by many people, the members of the technical committee of the association of time-share hotels, the state government, and many people who have worked, hoteliers, tourism service providers to cement and be an example for México.” He also noted that in the first four months of the year, Los Cabos experienced a 21 percent increase in international visitors and is enjoying a 10 percent growth in domestic visitors.

Gray Line Los Cabos Marks 15 Years, Opening of New Offices

 

In July, Gray Line Los Cabos and its 80 employees marked its 15th anniversary.

As part of the feted GrayLine.com sightseeing and tourism company, Gray Line Los Cabos has operated in Los Cabos since 2002. In July, the company and its 80 employees celebrated its 15-year anniversary as well as the opening of its new offices in San José del Cabo. Gray Line Los Cabos has accomplished a lot in 15 years; it has grown its fleet to more than 30 state-of-the-art vehicles and each year transports more than 85,000 passengers. With more than 25 hospital desk representatives, it assists more than 155,000 tourists annually.

ATP World Tour Returns to Los Cabos 

The ATP World Tour returned to Los Cabos at the end of July.

The Los Cabos Open tennis tournament—also known as Abierto Mexicano de Tenis Mifel presentado por Cinemex—returned to Los Cabos for a second year, July 31–August 6. Part of the ATP World Tour 250 Series, the tournament was played on outdoor hard courts and paid out $637,395 U.S. In the singles tournament, American Sam Querrey defeated Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis 6–3, 3–6, 6–2. And in the doubles category, Colombian Juan Sebastián Cabal and Filipino Treat Huey defeated Peruvian Sergio Galdós and Venezuelan Roberto Maytín, 6–2, 6–3. The tournament returns July 20, 2018.

3 Los Cabos Restaurants Earn Prestigious Grand Luxury Award

The Association of International Hospitality held a presentation ceremony June 15 at the Pitayitas Bar at Pitahayas at the Sheraton Grand Los Cabos Hacienda del Mar resort in San José del Cabo. There, the association awarded plaques commemorating the prestigious Grand Luxury Award to three Los Cabos restaurants: Don Sanchez (San José del Cabo), Edith’s (Cabo San Lucas), and Pitahayas.
