5 must-visit Los Cabos spas

By Sandra A. Berry

The only thing more relaxing than a sun-soaked afternoon on one Los Cabos’ lesser-known beaches is a day spent at one of the region’s exceptional spas, where you can indulge in treatments like a banana leaf wrap with a 15- minute steam, a green tea mask, or a beard facial for men.

Los Cabos spas offer myriad treatments, ranging from the spiritual to the inventive, from the ancient to high-tech. To help you pick your next spa date, we’ve prepared a short list of where to spa in Los Cabos.

Sparitual

Located at Cabo Villa Beach Resort on Médano Beach, Sparitual offers a wide variety of body treatments. Our favorite? The Mayan Ritual Massage, an ancient experience of balance and harmony, designed by Mayan ancestral healers as an anesthesia for the body to give a deeper awareness and state of rest and relaxation by focusing on the areas of greatest tension and stress.

A typical session begins at the head and works down to the feet, starting on the front and finishing on the back of the body. The skillful touch of the therapist activates detoxification (clearing out toxins) by stimulating the natural lymphatic drainage system, using quartz crystals on specific points. A Mexican blanket called a rebozois used to stretch and balance the legs, back and neck. A choice of soothing natural aloe oils, chamomile, thyme or rosemary helps remove inflammation and induces relaxation and hydration.

Eforea Spa

The Hilton Los Cabos Beach & Golf Resort’s Eforea Spa is an  inspiring and restorative refuge that offers a collection of unique local ancient remedies, inspired treatments, and innovative mindful experiences in a contemporary and exclusive environment. One must-try signature treatment is the Xoco-Tequila Native Experience, during which you can immerse yourself in ancient Mexican culture with this indigenous experience to connect with nature and uplift your soul. The treatment uses all native ingredients such as cacao and agave, and you can feel the greatness of ancient Mexican recipes to enhance your mental, emotional, and physical well-being while you experience a spiritual cleanse, or Mexican limpia, with copal incense, an aromatic tree resin, to provide protection and purification.

Another signature treatment is the Nopal Detox Cure. This detoxifying treatment uses the healing power of locally grown nopal (cactus), which is considered sacred in Aztec mythology because of its healing properties. The Nopal Detox Cure begins with a soft exfoliation with nutshell granules and then you are wrapped in a warm cocoon while experiencing a peel-off mask to reveal a newly healed skin. Finish this Mexican cultural immersion with a restorative light massage that combines the purifying property of copal.

Jasha Spa

The JW Marriott Los Cabos’ Jasha Spa is a place to get lost in luxury. Jasha, pronounced with an “h” like hasha, is a word meaning goodbye in Cochimi, the language of the Pericués, the first-known residents of the Baja Peninsula. The name is appropriate because you will say goodbye to all your cares, if only for a day. Jasha has all the amenities you could imagine, plus a temazcal ceremony that allows one to connect with her inner self. From its vitality pool to body-conscious therapies, this is a place to unwind, relax, and rejuvenate. Here you have a choice of eight massages and specialized facials, but one treatment you absolutely must consider is the Jasha Restorative Ritual. Finish your session in a 14-foot shower that feels like a gentle rain caressing your body.

Saltwater Spa

The Saltwater Spa at Casa Dorada Resort offers several signature treatments, and selecting just one can be quite the challenge. The Holistic Ritual is an experience that combines ingredients used by pre-Hispanic cultures to achieve a balance between mind and body, and it includes an exfoliation and body wrap hydration with a facial, as well as a relaxing massage with compresses of aromatic herbs to relax and purify the body. The Heart & Soul Ritual is a romantic experience focused on strengthening the love of a couple through a ritual that combines the therapeutic properties of natural essences with a personalized massage session with candles to release tension, creating a balance of harmony between the soul and heart. The Saltwater Signature Massage is a relaxing customized massage to enjoy a combination of relaxing massage techniques with hot stones, reflexology pressure points, lomi lomi, stretching, creating a synergy of relaxation and well-being. Note: In the Hawaiian and Samoan language, the word lomi means to knead, rub, or soothe, to work in and out, as the paws of a contented cat, said twice for emphasis.

Sea Spa

Arriving at the Sea Spa at Grand Solmar Resort is an experience in itself. Located where the land virtually ends at the tip of the Baja and nestled amid natural rock formations, four spa cabanas are elevated, built on stilts high above the sandy beach with palm-thatched, palapa roofs. The spa menu incorporates a food pairing with each treatment to enhance the taste buds while anticipating the pampering experiences to come. The spa uses fruits, vegetables and herbs in its treatments, including coconut mint sugar scrubs and mango body wraps along with watermelon papaya body butter. After a 110-minute personalized oxygenating massage combined with an organic facial using healing herbs to revitalize and restore the skin to its proper balance, then do nothing. Simply take in the sea in front of you. There is no piped-in music, only the soothing sounds of the ocean caressing the shore line a few feet below. This is luxury at its best.
