With some offerings being organic, and many more being just a bit on the lighter side, all of these dishes served at area restaurants make eating right something enjoyable, and seemingly sinful!

Amarone Ristorante Italiano

Located along the marina, you’ll find a treasure named Amarone Ristorante Italiano. Designed with a soft contemporary flair, the restaurant’s crisp white linens, glass-encased wine cellar, and deep-red accents create a classy dining environment. Patrons can take advantage of Cabo’s perfect weather while dining on Amarone’s outdoor terrace, complete with ambient water features and lush gardens. Inside, the air-conditioned restaurant features two dining levels. The lower level is framed around the long back-lit bar and glossy grand piano, while the upstairs is designed as a private modern loft. In addition to serving products which are directly imported from Italy, the menu also features fresh local organic produce.

A great appetizer to begin with is the Caprese di Mozzarella Italiana, made with calcium-rich mozzarella, vitamin-rich tomatoes, and topped with anti-oxidant packed basil ($9.90 U.S.). The Insalata Vegetariana in cestino di Formaggio, made with organic lettuce, celery, pears, parmigiano cheese slices, omega-3 rich walnuts, and maple syrup is an absolute delight ($12.10 U.S.). Save room for the fish filet, sautéed with tomatoes, olives, shrimp, and capers, served with sautéed organic zucchini and baby carrots ($30.80 U.S.). For a real treat, indulge in their tender beef filet; sautéed in Amarone wine and tamarind sauce, served with organic potatoes and cheese dumplings. Baja Cantina Marina

There’s no better way to enjoy a Cabo evening than by pulling up a chair under Baja Cantina Marina’s palapa and watching the activity, both in and out of the water, as you sample delicious, heart-healthy dishes. Situated behind Tesoro Los Cabos on Marina Blvd., Baja Cantina Marina is the epitome of comfortable and casual dining with an exceptional view on the waterfront. Proving this, you can even bring the family dog along, as this restaurant is pet-friendly. Entrees vary from $11 US to $36 US and consist of flavorful pizzas, seafood, steaks, and many Mexican favorites. Baja Cantina Marina uses all organic vegetables. Among the several salads is the Caesar, available with shrimp or chicken, the mixed salad, with tomatoes, cucumbers, and olives, and the Asian salad, (a meal in itself and Baja Cantina Marina’s signature salad): carrots, mandarin slices, sesame seeds, and strips of tortillas, onion, and grilled teriyaki chicken with a peanut sauce dressing ($13.50 US). Another great starter for the health-conscious is the fish ceviche, a combination of fresh fish, marinated in lime juice, tossed with tomatoes, onions, cilantro, and avocado. For those who enjoy spice, the shrimp aguachile provides a healthy kick. If you’re looking to eat something healthy to eat, but not feeling fully committed to life without carbohydrates, try the veggie pizza. Variety is key as olives, mushrooms, onions, garlic, and bell peppers come together over warm, cheesy goodness. Served on corn tortillas, the veggie fajitas are an excellent choice. Fish plates, like the mojo de ajo, are all served with heaping portions of steamed carrots, green beans, and chayote, in addition to white rice mixed with peas and corn. Baja Cantina Beach Restaurant

When looking for options to keep you both healthy and happy, look no further than Baja Cantina Beach Restaurant. A pet-friendly eatery located on a prime piece of land right on Cabo´s Playa Médano, this spacious, casual eatery offers a nice selection of tasty items for body-conscious diners, as well as a slew of other delicious entrees that are just plain scrumptious, all ranging from $18 US to $34 US. Starters include the Caesar salad for two ($15 US) with Romaine lettuce, parmesan cheese, croutons, and a homemade Caesar dressing, all made right at your table. Another winner is the Caprese salad: a petite tower of bright tomatoes, thick slices of mozzarella cheese, and basil, all drizzled with a perfectly-mixed oil and vinegar sauce. The sushi menu here is worth mentioning too, filled with specialty rolls and sashimi. An absolute must-try for sashimi fans is the Baja Cantina version. The plate comes covered with generous cuts of white fish, tuna, salmon, crab and shrimp, topped with sesame seeds and cream. Prefer your fish cooked? The lemon pepper fish is zesty and light. Meat eaters will rave about the Mignon pepper, imported USDA beef accompanied by steamed zucchini, carrots, mushrooms and fresh basil, plus a sweet potato mash. The grilled chicken breast is seasoned to perfection with dill, rosemary, garlic, white wine and peppers, plus grilled vegetables. Vegan diners are happily accommodated. Enjoy your selections in the sand, shaded by large umbrellas, or gaze at the stars while seated on the elevated patio while enjoying wireless Internet service. MC and Visa accepted. Bohai Asian Bistro

Asian fusion is an exciting concept and Bohai has excelled in blending various culinary philosophies from the Far East. No need to leave Cabo to experience a myriad of Asian style from Thailand, China, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Indonesia with special emphasis on Japan. Born in Peru, of Japanese parents, Chef Soeda’s heritage and training at Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Arts Institute endowed him with all the know-how to add his special touch to many menu items. For deliciously healthy dining, order Tuna Tartar with plum liqueur sauce and wasabi to awaken the palate. Bohai salad filled with fresh secret ingredients (papaya and Chinese spices), have been specially blended by Chef Soeda. An entrée of Pad Thai with shrimp and bean sprouts, stir fried in a red spicy sauce will have you feeling sated but not guilty. Top off your healthy dinner with green tea sorbet or green tea cheesecake. The restaurant décor is a study in Asian fusion. A koi pond is the focal point with a waterfall gently flowing out of a stone wall. A separate cocktail lounge with a low table and cushions is available for special parties. Brasil Restaurant

Capitan Fish

Located in one of the most desirable locations in the ever-expanding Puerto Paraiso Mall, Capitan Fish takes advantage of fantastic marina-side views. The restaurant is divided into a large air-conditioned main dining room, and two outdoor terraces. The interior dining room is decorated to resemble an underwater aquarium, replete with full-sized replica sharks and marine life. Outdoors, the terraces are designed to take advantage of cool ocean breezes and natural sunlight. Capitan Fish’s menu is a perfect complement to its creative décor. The selection, crafted by the area’s premier seafood chef, highlights fresh local ingredients paired with the best local and imported seafood. Start with the Ensalada de Mariscos; this seafood salad is rich in healthy vitamins and minerals ($15.50 U.S.). The delicious California chiles stuffed with tuna is an excellent source of lean protein and contains omega-3 fatty acids that are great for the heart. Plus, the chiles offer high doses of vitamin C and A. The Sailor’s Platter, with an array of appetizing seafood and fresh ceviche is out of this world ($44.50 U.S.). This dish is low in fat and high in iron, calcium, and zinc. For the main course, you can’t go wrong with the protein packed, whole fish of the day (priced by size). Casa Rafael’s

Having established itself years ago as one of Cabo’s most elite dining spots, the family-run Casa Rafael´s appeals to those seeking ambience and entrees that are unequaled in sophistication, with attentive service from beginning to end. Find classic romance by sitting either on the outdoor patio or within the air-conditioned, dimly-lit dining room. In keeping with the mission of providing quality meals, cooked from scratch upon order, Casa Rafael´s owner/Executive Chef Rafael Arraut uses many organic ingredients, vegetables being among them. Salads range in sizes and include fresh produce such as lettuce, onions, tomatoes, hearts of palm and carrots, (priced from $5 to $12 U.S.). Other scrumptious starters for those watching their waist include the seafood bisque, a rich medley of fresh seafood from Los Cabos’ surrounding waters, and the Malaysian chill, a delicious tuna dish. Dinners range $19 to $36 U.S., for non-lobster dishes. The chicken Sonia is a delectable entrée of boneless, skinless chicken breast in a light sauce of white wine, lemon, and capers, served with vegetables. The filet mignon teriyaki kabob, complemented by grilled onions, mushrooms, and colorful peppers, $27 U.S., is yet another great way to eat well and remain healthy. Acoustic group performs nightly. Casanova Ristorante Italiano

Casanova can best be described as an elegant and romantic, yet family friendly restaurant. This unique venue features a little slice of Venice, right here in Cabo. The warm earth-toned décor and gorgeous pink flowers create a feeling of comfort upon entry. Along an entire stretch of the restaurant are mounted Venetian Carnival masks, even the original mask used in the Hollywood film “Eyes Wide Shut.” The restaurant’s theme continues throughout with murals of Venetian landscapes and accents. On Wednesday and Thursday evenings, patrons are treated to live musical performances. The commitment to a true Venetian experience doesn’t stop with sights and sounds. Casanova is also passionately dedicated to preserving the original meaning of the Mediterranean diet. All dishes are cooked with extra-virgin olive oil and light, low-fat sauces. For the first course, they offer everything from Minestrone, (the famous low calorie Italian vegetable soup), to Prosciutto crudo e melone, (a thinly sliced Parma ham, bedded on mouthwatering cantaloupe melon). For the main course, indulge in a popular Venetian recipe, Jumbo Gamberoni alla busara. The juicy jumbo shrimps are sautéed with cherry tomato in a brandy-prosecco (Italian sparking white-wine), along with garlic and olive oil sauce, all served on a bed of spaghetti noodles. Ravioli spinaci e ricotta is another low-fat cuisine featuring giant home-made pasta cushions filled with sautéed spinach and original Italian ricotta cheese, served with cream of fresh cherry tomato ragout on the side. El Chilar

El Chilar is a hidden treasure in San Jose Del Cabo. The restaurant’s mission is to share the kindness and happiness of the Mexican culture with all their guests. The colorful décor, fun murals and ambient lighting add to the inviting atmosphere. El Chilar, meaning chile bush, makes chiles the main focal point of the restaurant. The majority of the Chef’s dishes are enhanced with the flavorful taste of their fresh chilies – even some of the desserts! The menu is traditional Mexican cuisine with a contemporary touch. Although the menu changes every month, the signature Oaxacan Tlayuda dish will always remain. The Tlayuda is prepared with your choice of chicken, flank steak, or vegetarian and served on a hand-made crispy corn tortilla with refried beans, cabbage, cheese and their special salsa. Another irresistible dish, the Chicken Supreme, is a select chicken breast prepared with onion marmalade and tamarind juice and served in a roasted red pepper and pasilla chili wheat stew. El Vaquero
House of Prime Rib Steak House

One of the most elegant restaurants in Los Cabos has to be El Vaquero. The service staff is attentive, the attention to detail is unmatched, the décor is rich yet comfortable, and the quality of food is spectacular. El Vaquero was built in one of the most historic buildings in San Jose. The architecture features exposed hand-made wooden beams, locally carved furniture, and original stained-glass windows. Each section of the restaurant has its own history and meaning. Without a doubt, El Vaquero has a menu selection that would rival the top steakhouses in North America. The house specialty is Prime Rib ($39 to $49 US), and it’s easy to see why. Prepared table-side, the prime rib is available in three distinct mouth-watering cuts, and served with all of the traditional accompaniments. In addition to the brilliant prime rib offerings, El Vaquero’s menu expands to include various salads, soups, seafood, steaks, and chops. The menu also includes many healthy offerings like their signature salad bowl made with all fresh local organic produce.

The salad is prepared table-side and features roasted red and yellow peppers, red beets, chopped eggs, and house dressing ($7 U.S.). For the perfect finale to the evening, the dessert menu has a temptation for every sweet-tooth. Il Panzerotto

Touting an incomparable ratio of high quality and low prices is the charming Italian eatery Il Panzerotto. Owned and operated by Milan Chef Davide Marchetti, this small but sophisticated bistro in Cabo serves purely authentic Mediterranean dishes in an intimate ambience with a trickling fountain at your fingertips. Aside from the deliciously traditional pastas with rich sauces, including hand-made gnocchi, there are excellent choices for light eaters, too. A Caprese salad, with basil leaves, tomatoes, mozzarella, and olive oil, is fragrant and delicious. The salmon comes with steamed asparagus, sprinkled with vibrant pomegranate seeds. Prices vary from $5 US to $18 US, for the T-bone or rib-eye steak, and combinations come with entrée, side dish, and a drink. You can´t beat these prices! Wines coming soon. La Casa Country Restaurant Bar

Specializing in beef, BBQ ribs, chicken, fish, and Mexican food, La Casa Country satisfies all tastes. With a focus on an increasingly health-conscious world, the restaurant makes a hit with its salsa made table-side with the freshest ingredients and to diners’ taste of hot. For lighter fare, why not make a meal on appetizers? The spicy succulent Ajillo Mushrooms, deliciously garlicky with slivered red pepper slices, can be a meal in itself and is a popular choice for diners. Dip accompanied toast rounds in the dark brown broth (don’t worry if anyone’s watching – they’ll do it, too). Other suggestions for healthy eating might be the Texas chicken breast with mushroom sauce or just grilled, or shrimp cooked in wine and lime with garlic with a side of baked potato or corn on the cob. You won’t find another country-western décor in Los Cabos like La Casa Country, so don your western hat, grab your friends, wander in for a fun evening of pure country, and enjoy watching the waiters as they line dance around 8 p.m. The air conditioned restaurant seats 125. La Golondrina Restaurant

This is the place for the true seafood aficionado. Guests choose this unique dining venue time and again because of its reputation for ample servings and superb service. Set in a casually elegant and romantic patio under large trees with twinkling lights, the restaurant provides something for everyone, from large platters of lobster served with mashed potatoes, rice, soup, Texas garlic toast, and tostada salad to a new focus on lighter fare. The walk-up board boasts over 100 entrees while the light menu includes plenty of healthy salads and grilled choices to satisfy even the most health-conscious diner. The Golondrina salad is made with dried cranberries, pecans, goat cheese in a thyme vinaigrette dressing, the Caprese salad with fresh tomatoes and mozzarella cheese, and the traditional Caesar can be prepared at table. Vegetarian soups and sauces are made without MSG and as little sodium as possible. Nothing is prepared with peanuts in the event of a diner’s allergic reaction. All seafood is fresh daily. For health’s sake, you can’t beat fish. Here you can find whole red snapper, seared ahi tuna, or fish from the surrounding waters prepared to your liking with a variety of sauces which can be served on the side, some spicier than others. Las Marías Restaurant & Bar

With an unparalleled view of Land’s End and the sea, Las Marías is nothing short of impressive. Inside the newly-opened Hacienda Encantada Resort & Spa, on the Tourist Corridor, this authentic Mexican restaurant dishes up some of the finest cuisine, with an abundant selection of guilt-free choices, and impeccable service. Entrees vary between $14.50 to $32.50 U.S. for the Las Marías shrimp. Lorenzillo’s

Grownups, looking for a classy establishment in which to enjoy fresh seafood without the kids? Lorenzillo’s, perched above the marina on Lázaro Cardenas in Cabo, has everything you’re looking for: killer view, impeccable service, sophisticated ambience and a well-balanced menu, bursting with healthy options. Known as the “Live Lobster House,” of course lobster combinations are numerous. Not for the indecisive, Lorenzillo´s displays no fewer than 18 methods of preparation from which to choose, all at market price. In addition to fish and shrimp plates or combination platters, pasta, beef, and chicken dishes are also available, ranging from $25 to $45 U.S. If you don’t want to overindulge though, try the unique and delicious Caesar salad. Enjoy the tableside show as a waiter combines and mixes oil, bacon, cream, egg yolk, mustard, Parmesan cheese, and spices into a crisp bed of Romaine lettuce. If fresh vegetables, and lots of them, are your thing, the Proa mixed salad, will leave you feeling healthy. Visitors to Lucky’s Cabo Grill are usually greeted by the owner himself, only thing is, he’s likely to greet you with a friendly welcoming bark. Named after the most famous Cabo canine, Lucky’s is all about great tasting, no frills, home-style cooking. Everything from the outdoor open-air grill to the whimsical decorations, says you’re in a comfy Mexican cantina. Lucky’s features a retro jukebox playing classic favorites, open-air palapa dining, and signatures from all of the visitors who’ve been “lucky” enough to find this fabulous establishment. If you are looking for the best deal in town, try one of the all-you-can-eat platter dishes featuring combinations of ribs, chicken, and sirloin ranging from $16.50 to $22 U.S. All dinners include Lucky’s beans, grilled corn and the salad of the day. The Médano Beach Club

Offering the same quality of delicious food within an all-new, chic yet casual setting on the sand is Médano Beach Club in Cabo. Known previously as Las Palmas, this recently-remodeled establishment offers plenty of fresh seafood, caught locally and brought in three times a week, plus innovative Mexican cuisine, and even a few organic options, all just steps from the Sea of Cortéz. Entrees range from $15 to $28 U.S., and are preceded by complimentary chips and fresh salsa. Diners looking to stay slim might opt for one of the salads as a starter, using 100% organic vegetables such as cherry tomatoes and baby carrots. A heartier, but still healthy meal is the fajita plate, $15 U.S. Served with warm flour tortillas, this combination of organic onions, red and green bell peppers, and strips of succulent steak will satisfy anyone’s appetite.

Either before or after the meal, look super sexy while being served cocktails atop one of the white beach beds, or saunter into the shade of a teepee on the beach. No Worry’s Bar & Grill

Playing on the name, you don’t have to worry about depriving yourself of the foods you love at this waterfront restaurant. Granted, their hamburgers are the talk of the town and the cheesecake is to die for, but if you’re worried about staying healthy and keeping your weight down while making your restaurant experience worthwhile, this is a great place to enjoy a healthy meal. Fresh veggie salads are available with grilled chicken or seared tuna, or try the jumbo shrimp with a coconut mango dressing. To treat the eyes as well as the palate, the Tropico salad is a blend of tropical fruits decorated with jumbo shrimp served in a pineapple shell. The only restaurant in Los Cabos offering award-winning Pacific Rim cuisine, and in a setting so tropical it looks something in a Hollywood film, is Pitahayas. Nestled over the sands of the Sea of Cortéz as part of the Sheraton Hacienda Del Mar, Pitahayas boasts the talents of Chef Volker Romeike, who draws inspiration from all regions surrounding the Pacific Ocean. If you feel as if you have had all the margaritas and tequila you can handle, why not stop by Pub De la Chapu Restaurant & Bar and experience a different taste of Cabo.
