It’s hard to imagine a restaurant that can make grown men whimper, but that is just what I’ve witnessed on more than one occasion at the moonlit Argentine steak house Chamuyo (pronounced “shamoshow”). Its menu sends you on a culinary adventure through Buenos Aires dance halls and the verdant Pampas. And the kitchen’s generous servings mean you’ll need the appetite of a gaucho.
Dine on monster 22-ounce beef ribs that chef Marcelo Romby—a talented Argentine import—slow cooks for more than four hours. Meat-stuffed empanadas come fried or oven baked, and they serve as excellent starters. For a surefire excellent meal, opt for the dinner for two. It includes beef rib, sausage, rib eye, salad, and a bottle of wine for $68 U.S.; the dinner for four is $129 U.S.
There are also wood-fired pizzas, fish, homemade pasta, Argentine sausage served with salad, and milanesa sandwiches. End with bread pudding, flan, or Argentine crepes made with seasonal fruit. Paseo del Pescador at Acuario, Cabo San Lucas, (624) 143-4900, www.loscabosguide.com/chamuyo restaurant/index.html. Nightly 5 p.m.–midnight. All major credit cards and vouchers accepted. $$–$$$$ A.A.
