Sabor A Cabo Festival Award Winning Cuisine
On Saturday, December 21, 2019, Santo Seafood Restaurant and Cantina celebrated their one year anniversary. During their first year in existence, Santo Seafood Restaurant and Cantina has participated in several local gastronomic cerebration festivals in order to best promote their up-and-coming great dining establishment; by attending such events as the Taco Festival of Casa Dorada, The San Jose del Cabo Jazz Festival, The 4th Annual El Triunfo Gastronomic Festival, as well as the prestigious 10th Edition of the Sabor A Cabo International Gastronomic Festival.
It was at the world renown Sabor A Cabo event; in which Santo Seafood Restaurant and Cantina shocked the local and Baja California Sur culinary community by winning four (4) distinguished awards. One of their award winning plaques was presented for their marinated octopus tacos, cooked to delicious perfection upon their vertical rotisserie called a Trompo. Local freelance photographer, Clara Godines Llanes, spoke of seeing the crowd of stunned Sabor A Cabo attendees in complete shock, as they called out Santo Seafood Restaurant and Cantina when presenting the awards. “Nobody could believe it. People whispered in eye opening surprise, wondering who Santo was,’’ said Godines. ‘’And then they called their names again and again and it left so many people speechless. Although, everyone who tried their award winning dishes could agree with how tasty they were.’’
Typically, Al Pastor pork tacos are prepared in the same marinated manner, with dried chilies, spices, and served with a pineapple slice. Photos of this award winning octopus delight were shared on social media’s Orgasmic Food site an incredible 33,000 times and on twitter 29,000 times. Adding to Santo Seafood Restaurant and Cantina’s rising new fame, was the special visit of Mexican Hollywood star actor, Joaquin Cosió; who is most famous for his portrayal of the cartel drug dealer, ‘’El Cochiloco’’ from the 2010 film, “El Infierno’’; which grossed $6.7 million dollars world wide, and has become a cult classic.
‘’We have participated in gastronomic events, because we were trying topromote our cuisine. In reality, we offer much more than just seafood. This past year we attended Sabor A Cabo for the first time and we won four out of the five categories, one which was our octopus recipe that we cooked in an Al Pastor-style, which turned out being the favorite of all the different flavors available at Sabor A Cabo,’’ commented Roberto Padilla, Santo director of public relations. Adding that, ‘’One of the great things about our Santo Restaurant is that we are very family oriented and kid-friendly. We offer a child’s upstairs play area that is live streamed on our hanging plasma televisions so that parents can keep an eye on their children who are also up there supervised by our kid’s child care room attendant. What some would call our restaurant baby sitter. In this way, our guests can bring their children and eat in peace and harmony. So in essence, everyone is welcome at our restaurant. And they can enjoy dinner, watch a sporting event on one of our televisions, and still keep a close eye on their children.’’
‘’While our specialty is seafood, our menu is of international options that includes Mexican dishes, and as far as seafood goes, everything on our menu is fresh, thanks to the bountiful blessings from our Pacific Ocean and Sea of Cortez. The same of course, can be said of our fresh organic fruits and vegetables which are delivered by locally grown vendors from such nearby places as El Pescadero, Todos Santos, Miraflores, San Carlos and San Jose del Cabo,’’ said Santo Executive Chef, Luis Lopez Perez. ‘’We have Oysters, Paellas, and children’s favorites like pancakes. On Sundays, we offer a wonderful brunch between 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM, that has plenty of delicious options, from hot plate items like our tasty Tortilla soup and fresh cold plate servings of Ceviche, oysters, or Sashimi Serranito. Wednesdays, is our Executive Chef specials, and every Tuesday we have our birthdays of the month special in which the birthday boy or girl/man or woman/male or female, can enjoy a delicious meal, totally free. One of our outstanding dishes is our shrimp enchiladas that feature a special sauce spread over the enchiladas giving them our unique and unforgettable flavor. The special sauce is a mix of dried red peppers, and smoked Marlin which provides for an explosive and delicious taste.’’
