When vacationing, I make a point of talking with cabbies. Their insights supplement traditional travel guides and can point you to lesser-known culinary gems. That’s how I first learned about Mariscos Mocambo, a Veracruz-style seafood restaurant in downtown Cabo San Lucas. It’s a favorite of locals—and for good reason.
Mocambos’ chefs make the most of the abundant waters that line the peninsula. There are locally sourced dishes like chocolate clams, spicy camarón aguachile (shrimp with serrano chile and lime), chilpachole de jaiba (crab soup with a touch of chipotle and epazote), and shrimp ceviche. You could fill up on starters, but you’ll want to save room for plates like the pulpo en su tinta (octopus in its ink), which is prepared here with white rice, onion, and jalapeño.
