Dining Review – LCM – 36 Any savvy traveler knows the secret to eating well on vacation is to seek out locals’ favorite haunts. Baja Peppers is just such a spot, offering the perfect balance of gourmet creations and affordability. Plus, John Venditti’s restaurant just keeps getting better. After its annual fall hiatus, Baja Peppers returned last year with a bigger and even better menu. The restaurant retained all of the favorites off of its Italian-Mexican-American menu—including the $4 all-American breakfast. New selections include a Canadian omelet with smoked salmon, scallops, and prawns topped with hollandaise sauce and avocados and served with potatoes, fruit and toast. The Super Burrito headlines the recent lunchtime additions, and it is served with chicken or arrachera smothered in a delicious jalapeño cheese sauce. For dinner, start with the carpaccio di pulipo, thinly sliced octopus drizzled in vinaigrette, or the smoked salmon and goat cheese bruschetta. Entrée choices include steaks as well as pastas and traditional Mexican dishes, highlighted by a superb 12-ounce New York steak with portobello mushrooms in a cognac cream peppercorn sauce.
