Chin’s – LCM 48 Fall 2017

This is the premier Chinese restaurant in Los Cabos, having originated in Las Vegas under the auspices of Hong Kong–raised Tola Chin, whose imprint is on every dish. It’s no secret this is the place for authentic delights of the Far East with an emphasis on old Cathay, Canton, and Szechwan dishes. What you may not know is that Chin’s offers an extensive beverage list of unique combinations: Examples include a ginger margarita and a martini made with avocado, vodka, sake, lemon, and agave syrup. There is also a selection of Chinese beer and an extensive sake list. For food starters, opt for any number of enticing appetizers. I especially like the steamed crab wontons that awaken the palate with a bit of a kick of garlic, ginger, cilantro, and habanero sauce. Moo shu pork is wrapped in a crepe prepared tableside and topped with a special hoisin sauce. Entrées include traditional favorites such as sweet-and-sour pork; walnut shrimp with a special mayo sauce; wok-prepared Mongolian beef; spicy chicken with red chile peppers; and lemon chicken, a favorite of many. And there are always fried rice dishes with various additions as well as egg rolls. Other offerings include chow mein and crispy beef, or go for the gusto with a whole deep-fried fish, Chinese style. For a different ending, treat yourself to an espresso martini, made with Baileys, Frangelico, and espresso or one of the sumptuous desserts such as tempura fried ice cream. Take-out service is available. Shoppes at Palmilla, km 27.5 on the tourist corridor, San José del Cabo, (624) 144-6060, Daily 12:30 p.m.–10:30 p.m. AmEx, MasterCard, and Visa accepted. $–$$$ S.A.B.
